Judo Junior European Cup in Athens in the heart of sports

This weekend the second IJF World Tour event in Europe will take place. Greece, the country that gave birth to the Olympic spirit, will host the Junior European Judo Cup under the name “Ilias Iliadis Cup 2016”. The first event of this year in Coimbra delivered the team of the Netherlands a record of 10 gold medals. In Athens the Junior European Cup will host more than 270 athletes from 24 countries. About 80 athletes from Greece, furthermore big teams from Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Italy, a strong women’s team from Israel and 10 young men from France.

National coach Nikos Iliadis expects a good competition "Yes, both both in terms of competition as from organisational point of view. We did our utmost to ensure that the “Ilias Iliadis Cup 2016” will be a success. “

The event has a European Cup status since 2009, held in Mudania, Thessaloniki and Athens. During those years Greece won 18 gold medals, 11 for the men and 7 for the female talents of Greece. Iliadis wishes the women special inspiration. “We duly expect medals and success on the part of the Greek female athletes.” Last two years the event was won by Elisavet Teltsidou who won her first IJF World Tour medal in the seniors last week in Tbilisi. Among the male winners Roman Moustopoulos (2), Georgios Azoidis and Alexios Ntanatsidis who are all fighting at senior level now.

Just after the event the training camp in Loutraki will be held, an EJU Junior Training Camp with the participation of about 250 athletes.
