Austria wins the bid for 2021 Judo World Championships

The Austrian Judo Federation is proud to win the bid for the World Judo Championships in 2021 to be held in Vienna. Austria organised the World Championships for the last time in 1984 for women and in 1975 for men, both times Vienna was the host city as well.
Vienna has a reputation when it comes to big events but it was quite some time ago. Austria was also organizer of the 2010 European Championship and organized Europeans four times. The current European Open was and World Cup held in Vienna between 2006 and 2010.
The Ministry of Sports gave guarantees the financing of the World Championships and organization of such major event.
Austria has four World Champions in Peter Seisenbacher (1985) and had three female World Champions at the first edition of female World Championships in New York in 1980 with Edith Hrovat, Gerda Winklbauer and Edith Simon. Since that time Roswitha Hartl, Patrick Reiter, Sabrina Filzmoser and Ludwig Paischer achived to win World Championships medals.
The first to be held after the Tokyo Games in 2020, will take place in Vienna, Austria from 12 to 19 September in 2019, the World Championships will take place in Tokyo, Japan.
