Aaron Wolf retains gold in Budapest

Japan’s 2017 World Champion Wolf Aaron won his fourth Grand Prix gold medal with a win over Tel Aviv Grand Prix bronze medallist Grigori Minaskin (EST). All Japan Openweight Championships winner WOLF employed his uchi-mata to devastating effect as he scored twice with the technique to start off Japan’s gold rush on the last day.
Estonia’s first Grand Prix finalist Minaskin will be delighted with his day’s work and a career-best result which moves him closer to Tokyo 2020 qualification.
In the first semi-final Minaskin beat Junior World Championships silver medallist Simeon Catharina (NED) by ippon to reach his first final on the IJF circuit. In the second semi-final Wolf defeated Osaka Grand Slam bronze medallist Jorge Fonseca (POR) by ippon in golden score.
The first bronze medal was won by world champion Cho Guham (KOR) who bounced back to beat Fonseca for a place on the podium. Fonseca picked up his third shido for passivity after two minutes of golden score and was disqualified.
The second bronze medal went to Catharina who countered Hohhot Grand Prix bronze medallist Joakim Dvarby (SWE) for ippon and his first IJF World Judo Tour medal.
